About Lupin III
Lupin III began as Monkey Punch's manga in 1967 and has run as anime since 1971. The TV spine includes Part I (1971), Part II (1977-1980, 155 episodes), Part III (1984-1985), The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (2012), Part IV (2015), Part 5 (2018) and Part 6 (2021-2022), plus the prequel Lupin Zero (2022-2023). Theatrical highlights include The Mystery of Mamo (1978), Castle of Cagliostro (1979) and The First (2019).
Nearly everything is episodic. The gang of Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko and Inspector Zenigata resets each outing, so continuity between series is thin and movies rarely reference TV episodes.
Good to know
New viewers should start with either Castle of Cagliostro or Part IV, since both introduce the gang cleanly in modern animation. Part II is the long classic run and worth sampling rather than completing at 155 episodes. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is darker and sits as a prequel to the whole cast meeting, so save it until you know the characters from a lighter entry first.
