About Prince of Tennis
Prince of Tennis adapts Takeshi Konomi's manga about Ryoma Echizen rising through Seigaku to the Nationals. The original aired 178 episodes from 2001 to 2005, followed by the National Tournament OVAs in 2006 to 2009 and Another Story OVAs in 2009. The New Prince of Tennis aired 13 episodes in 2012 with the U-17 camp, and U-17 World Cup ran 13 episodes in 2022 plus the semifinal season in 2024.
Two films retell the story in condensed form, and the manga continues the World Cup past the anime. No new season has been dated as of 2026, but the tennis world stays active with the story still running in print.
Good to know
Watch the original 178 episodes first, then the National OVAs, then New Prince of Tennis and the World Cup seasons in order, since the U-17 roster assumes the full Seigaku history. The original looks long but paces like modern multi-cour runs back to back. Films like the British Castle match are alternates, safe after the TV run rather than between seasons.
