About Ranma 1/2

Ranma Saotome turns into a girl when splashed with cold water and back with hot water, and his engagement to Akane Tendo anchors years of martial arts chaos. Studio Deen aired 161 TV episodes from April 15, 1989 to September 25, 1992: an 18-episode first run, then 143 episodes as Ranma 1/2 Nettohen.

Release order is the simplest path. The TV run is heavily episodic and adapts roughly the first 22 of the manga's 38 volumes, so keep a filler list open if you want a lean watch. The MAPPA remake that started in 2024 retells the same story with tighter pacing, which makes it the faster route for newcomers.

Good to know

The original adapts about 56 percent of the manga, so most episodes are self-contained and skippable without losing the plot. Viz reordered some episodes on old VHS and DVD sets, so Japanese broadcast numbering and Viz numbering can differ by a few slots.

The third film, Team Ranma vs. the Legendary Phoenix (1994), is a 31-minute theatrical short first shown with two other programs. Some catalogs file it with the OVAs. Remake season 3 is dated October 3, 2026, which falls after this post's verification date, so it is reported separately rather than listed below.
