About Record of Lodoss War
Record of Lodoss War follows Parn and Deedlit against Karla and Ashram on Forcelia. The 1990 OVA runs 13 episodes into the Grey Witch and Fire Dragon arcs with Madhouse fantasy craft. Chronicles of the Heroic Knight from 1998 runs 27 episodes with Spark as the new lead and Parn as mentor.
The Crystal of Fire film lore and Welcome to Lodoss Island shorts add side flavor outside canon. The TV run ends with the Marmo close and no new Lodoss TV dated as of September 2026. Watch in release order since Spark’s quest assumes Parn’s war.
Good to know
Watch the 1990 OVA fully before Chronicles. Spark’s party only lands if you know Parn and Ashram from the OVA run, so skipping breaks the handover badly for new viewers. The shorts fit after the OVA as extras. Treat the OVA plus Chronicles as the screen core, with novels past the anime for readers who want more.
