About Rune Soldier
Rune Soldier follows Louie with Melissa, Genie and Merrill as failed mage turned fighter in Ohfun. The 2001 series runs 24 episodes from the guild setup through endowed runes and war plots with Ippo craft. Madhouse bases the Forcelia links on Mizuno lore and Lodoss roots.
The 2002 OVA adds 3 side tales outside the TV canon with the same party. The series ends with the Louie vow closed and no new TV dated as of September 2026. Watch in release order since rune upgrades and guild trust stack directly.
Good to know
Watch the 2001 series fully before the OVA at all. The Louie bonds only land if you know the guild rules from the series well, so skipping breaks the OVA setup badly. OVAs fit after the run as extras rather than entries. Treat the 24 episodes as complete, since the swordsman arc ends there and novels stay past.
