About Serial Experiments Lain
Serial Experiments Lain follows Lain Iwakura, a quiet schoolgirl pulled into the Wired after a classmate's death, blurring her selves across the network and reality. Triangle Staff's 13 episode anime from 1998 runs one continuous unraveling.
Watch the 13 episodes straight through. The show layers its identity mystery episode by episode, so any reordering or episode skipping breaks the design. The PlayStation game tells a parallel story rather than a prequel or sequel, which is why it stays out of the watch list.
Good to know
No sequel or remake exists: the 13 episodes are the complete Lain screen story, with the game and manga as side branches to explore. The show's influence on everything after it is hard to overstate, from its interface design to its questions. The ending resolves on its own terms if followed in order.
