About Slam Dunk
Slam Dunk runs 101 TV episodes from 1993 to 1996 with Sakuragi joining Shohoku through the Shoyo, Ryonan and Sannoh buildups, stopping before the Nationals finale. Four 90s films slot beside it as non-canon side stories: the first after episode 20, the second after 36, the third after 60, and the fourth after that. The First Slam Dunk from 2022 adapts the Sannoh manga finale from Miyagi's view and closes the story.
Watch the series first, slotting the classic films where they aired or saving them all for after. The First Slam Dunk assumes the full team known and adapts material the series never reached, so it must close. The manga's 31 volumes sit behind everything as the complete telling for readers who want the Nationals in full detail.
Good to know
Series first, classic films placed or postponed, First Slam Dunk last. The old films are side stories that fit their air slots without affecting the plot, so batching them after the series loses nothing. The 2022 film is the true finale the TV run never got, adapting the Sannoh game the anime skipped. Its Miyagi focus reframes a story long-timers know, which is why it needs the series seen.
