About Tom Sawyer
Tom Sawyer follows Tom and Huck Finn through mischief in St. Petersburg, from skipping school and tricking friends into whitewashing the fence to night trips near the graveyard. Early episodes build the Becky Thatcher crush, the clash with adults and the lure of the Mississippi. The middle run turns darker with the witness to a crime, fear of Injun Joe and the pull between play and duty.
The closing stretch follows the island escape, the courtroom courage, the cave search and the return home with lessons earned. Nippon Animation aired 49 episodes in 1980 as part of World Masterpiece Theater. Watch episodes 1 through 49 in broadcast order since the pranks build toward real danger.
Good to know
Watch all 49 episodes in broadcast order because the early pranks set up friendships tested later in the cave and courtroom arcs. The TV serial adapts the novel fully, so no film is required to finish the tale. Huck-centered follow ups are separate and optional. Expect lively adventure tone, period river detail and a clear path from tricks to brave choices.
