About Yuri on Ice
Yuri on Ice follows Japanese skater Yuri Katsuki coached by Russian champion Victor Nikiforov toward the Grand Prix Final, with Yuri Plisetsky as rival. The series ran 12 episodes from October to December 2016 on MAPPA and became a breakout sports hit.
The special Welcome to the Madness arrived May 2017 on Blu-ray as an exhibition routine for Yuri Plisetsky and Otabek. The prequel film Ice Adolescence was announced in 2017, dated for 2019, delayed, then cancelled in April 2024. No new anime has been announced since, so the series plus special is the complete run.
Good to know
There is no chronological order for this franchise. The series runs straight through one Grand Prix season and the special is an exhibition outside story time. Watch the 12 episodes first, then the special as a bonus. The cancelled film would have shown young Victor, but MAPPA closed that door in 2024.
