About Zatch Bell!
Zatch Bell! adapts Makoto Raiku's manga about the Mamodo battles: demon children paired with human partners, fighting with spellbooks until one king remains. The Toei anime ran 150 episodes from 2003 to 2006 and covers most of the manga with its own ending, since the manga was still running.
Watch the series straight through, then the two films, which slot into the middle as side adventures. The first film fits around the middle of the run and the second near the end, but both are standalone enough that release order works fine. The manga's true final arc and the Gash Bell 2 sequel manga have no anime, so book readers get an extended ending.
Good to know
The anime ending diverges from the manga, so if the finale feels rushed, that is why: the show caught up and wrote its own close. The English dub famously stopped partway, so later episodes are subtitle-only in most regions. The two films are fun but skippable side quests with no plot consequences. Gash Bell 2, the manga sequel running since 2022, has no anime adaptation announced.
