About Back to the Future: The Animated Series
After the film trilogy ended in 1990, CBS picked up the story as a Saturday morning cartoon from Universal Cartoon Studios and Amblin Television. Doc Brown settled in Hill Valley with Clara and sons Jules and Verne, and each week the DeLorean or the steam time train carried Marty and the Browns somewhere new, from ancient Rome to the far future. Christopher Lloyd opened episodes in live action with Bill Nye, while Dan Castellaneta voiced Doc and Mary Steenburgen returned as Clara.
Season 1 aired 13 episodes from September to December 1991 and Season 2 added 13 more from September to December 1992. The show is episodic, so any single trip stands alone, but release order keeps character introductions in place. Start with Season 1, then move to Season 2.
Good to know
This guide covers only the 1991 to 1992 CBS animated series, not the three films, which have their own guide at back-to-the-future-watch-order.json. There is no separate chronological order worth listing: episodes jump across history every week, so release order is the story order. Watch the movies first for context, since the cartoon assumes you know Doc, Marty and the DeLorean.
