About Rainbow Brite
Rainbow Brite protects the colors of Rainbowland from Murky Dismal across a short DIC run: TV specials in 1984, the Star Stealer film in November 1985, and a 13 episode series running into 1986. The film expands the setting to the diamond planet Spectra and introduces Krys.
Watch the specials and series first, then the film. The movie assumes no prior knowledge and works standalone, but its Dark Princess returns in the final series episode, so release order keeps that payoff intact. Later reboots from 2014 onward are separate continuities for a new generation.
Good to know
The series ran only 13 episodes, so completists can finish everything in a weekend. The film underperformed theatrically at under 5 million dollars, which is why no second movie followed. The 2014 web reboot and its companions retell the premise and sit outside this list, mentioned here only so nobody mixes the two up.
