About RWBY
RWBY (2013) is Monty Oum's huntress saga: Ruby leads team RWBY through Beacon Academy into a war for Remnant across nine volumes. Early volumes are indie-rough shorts; the show grows into full seasons after volume 3, surviving its creator's death and a studio move.
Watch volumes 1 through 9 in order; the plot never branches. Ice Queendom (2022) is an anime retelling of the early volumes and works as a supplement, while the two Justice League crossover films (2023) are side adventures. Rooster Teeth closed in 2024 and Viz Media took the property, with no tenth volume announced at the last check.
Good to know
Volume 1's episodes run a few minutes each and look dated, so new viewers should push into volume 2 before judging: the show finds itself at the volume 3 tournament. The White Trailer through Yellow Trailer shorts precede volume 1 and are collected as Trailers. Ice Queendom remixes early plot with anime-original middles, best seen after volume 3. The soundtrack is central to the experience; do not watch muted.
