About Sesame Street

Sesame Street teaches letters and feelings with Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster and humans on the Street since 1969. Early PBS decades set the long block format with street stories, the 2016 HBO move cut episodes to 30 minutes with less time, and the Max era keeps new seasons yearly.

Theatrical films Follow That Bird in 1985 and Elmo in Grouchland in 1999 work as standalone trips off the Street with simple quests. Holiday specials and the 2021 Not Too Late Show slot anywhere near their years with no plot to track across shows.

Good to know

Start with any recent season for young viewers, since episodes stand alone and the cast turns over gently year by year. Watch the two films after a few episodes so the characters land with meaning. The show stays ongoing with season 56 in production, so treat this as a living run to sample rather than a finale to reach.
