About Tom and Jerry
Tom and Jerry began with Hanna-Barbera theatrical shorts from 1940 about the cat-mouse chase, winning seven Oscars across 114 shorts. Gene Deitch's 1961 run and Chuck Jones's 1963 run restyled the duo, while the 1975 and 1980 TV series softened them into friends. The Comedy Show, Kids, Tales and the 2014 series carried TV eras, with the 2021 film returning them to New York hotels.
Each version resets the house and the rivalry with no shared timeline, so the shorts, the series and the film all start clean. The franchise stays active through new shorts and streaming runs with no fixed endpoint.
