About Bard's Tale
Bard's Tale from Interplay launched in 1985 with Tales of the Unknown in Skara Brae across 90 maze levels. Destiny Knight from 1986 and Thief of Fate from 1988 continue with Archmage Lagoth and code wheels. All three share first person grids and bard songs.
The Bard's Tale from 2004 reboots as a parody action RPG with Cary Elwes voicing and summon songs. Barrows Deep from 2018 by inXile returns to grids with 85 hours. No fifth classic was planned, so Barrows stands as the close with Skara Brae saved.
Good to know
Play one to three then 2004 then Barrows in order since songs and Skara Brae carry over in spirit directly each quest. The 2004 reboot spoils nothing but assumes grid knowledge for jokes and maps. Barrows needs no import but rewards classic maps with callbacks. Treat the run as closed with one bard song at the end.
