About Blizzard

Blizzard Entertainment built its name on Warcraft, a 1994 fantasy RTS that grew into World of Warcraft, the MMO that defined a decade of online play. Diablo brought fast loot action in 1996, while StarCraft set the standard for competitive RTS in 1998. Hearthstone and Overwatch later translated those universes into card games and hero shooters.

Playing in release order shows how Blizzard reuses factions, humor and patch-driven balance across genres. Warcraft 3's hero units preview World of Warcraft classes, and Overwatch maps borrow visual language from StarCraft terrain. Newcomers can start with modern clients like World of Warcraft, Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 without playing the 1990s originals first.

Good to know

Release order works best because the universes are separate. Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo do not share a timeline, so chronological order does not apply across franchises. Within each series, play numerically: Warcraft 1 through 3 before World of Warcraft, StarCraft before Brood War and StarCraft 2, Diablo 1 through 4 in order. The list below uses first entries to keep the path short.
