About BoxBoy!
BoxBoy! (2015) is HAL Laboratory's minimalist puzzler: Qbby generates boxes to climb, block lasers and ferry himself across 200-plus stages. BoxBoxBoy! (2016) doubles the box sets, Bye-Bye BoxBoy! (2017) adds box types as a farewell, and BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! (2019) brings co-op to Switch.
Release order is the difficulty curve; each game assumes the last's tricks. The monochrome style hides real mechanical depth that compounds fast. The amiibo costumes are bonuses, not content. The four games are a complete education in elegant puzzle design, ending where the concept peaks.
Good to know
The stage counts are generous in every entry, so the four games hold hundreds of puzzles: completionists should budget accordingly. BoxGirl's campaign retunes the formula around a taller box, a genuine twist rather than a reskin. The Switch entry's co-op is the series' only multiplayer. No sequel has been announced since 2019, so the four games are the set.
