About Dead Space
Dead Space is a science fiction horror series about engineer Isaac Clarke and the Marker outbreaks that turn the dead into Necromorphs. The story runs from the USG Ishimura in the first game through the Sprawl station in Dead Space 2 to the ice world of Tau Volantis in Dead Space 3. Newcomers should start with the 2023 remake, which rebuilds the first game with modern controls and full voice acting for Isaac.
Release order is the recommended play order, and this single list covers it. Extraction is a 2009 rail shooter prequel best played after the first game, while the Severed DLC slots right after Dead Space 2. The remake replaces the 2008 original, so skip the old version unless you want a history lesson.
Good to know
Extraction was also bundled with early PS3 copies of Dead Space 2. Ignition (2010), a puzzle minigame prequel to Dead Space 2, is skippable. No new game has been announced: 2024 press reports described a shelved Dead Space 2 remake pitch after the 2023 remake missed EA sales expectations, and Motive moved on to Battlefield and Iron Man work. Treat sequel hopes as unconfirmed.
