About Doom
Doom splits into classic and modern runs that both start on Mars and end in Hell. The 1993 original plus Hell on Earth and 64 establish the formula, Doom 3 from 2004 retells the Mars incident as horror, and the modern trilogy reboots with Doom 2016, Eternal 2020 with its Ancient Gods expansion, and Dark Ages from May 2025.
Dark Ages works as a medieval prequel to the 2016 game despite arriving last, with the Revelations campaign DLC announced as its follow-up. Story order and release order differ only there, so newcomers can start with either the 1993 original or the 2016 reboot.
Good to know
Play the modern trilogy in release order of 2016, Eternal, then Dark Ages, since Dark Ages assumes Slayer lore the first two establish. Classic Doom stays optional as history rather than homework. The Revelations DLC carries no date yet, so the guide ends at Dark Ages, and multiplayer eras like 3 and 64 can be sampled freely without order pressure.
