About Ecco
Ecco starts in 1992 with the dolphin lost from the reef into Vortex machines and Atlantis ruins. Tides of Time from 1994 continues with time travel and Moray foes across harder mazes. The singing and sonar loop stays central in both.
Junior from 1995 softens the run for young players, while Defender of the Future from 2000 reboots on Dreamcast with 3D reefs. The series shares Vortex lore but resets difficulty, so release order suits maze growth over plot. A new Ecco has been discussed but had no date as of September 2026.
Good to know
Play the 1992 original first for the sonar base well, then Tides for the direct follow up. Junior suits kids after the pair rather than as a start. Defender fits last as the 3D reboot with its own Vortex take. Treat the run as paused while a remake stays possible, since the maze style still stands out.
