About Five Nights at Freddy's
Five Nights at Freddy's began with Scott Cawthon's four office games across 2014 and 2015, then expanded with World (2016), Sister Location (2016), Pizzeria Simulator (2017) and Ultimate Custom Night (2018). Steel Wool took over with Help Wanted (2019), Security Breach (2021) plus Ruin DLC (2023), Help Wanted 2 (2023), Into the Pit (2024) and Secret of the Mimic (June 2025) about Edwin Murray's Costume Manor.
The Blumhouse films run their own continuity with the 2023 original and the sequel dated December 5, 2025. The games hide lore in 8-bit minigames and VHS tapes, which makes release order the way the mystery was designed to unfold.
Good to know
Play in release order, since each game assumes you know the missing-children outline from the last. The story never explains itself directly, so expect to read outside summaries between games for the Afton and Mimic threads. The films, novels and Fazbear Frights books retell and remix the same scares in separate continuities, safe to enjoy after the games.
