About Guilty Gear
Guilty Gear is Arc System Works' metal fueled fighting series, running from the 1998 original through X, XX, Isuka, Judgment, the Overture action branch, Xrd and Strive in 2021. Sol Badguy's war with That Man threads a real story mode through the arcade lineage.
Play in release order for the full run, but newcomers should start at Xrd or Strive. The early games teach the air dash neutral the series is built on, while Strive is the live door with rollback and the current scene. Story modes recap on arrival, so late entry costs lore, not competence.
Good to know
Strive remains the active game with seasonal characters, so it sits last as the present tense of the list. Overture is the action branch oddity, skippable for fighting purists.
