About Just Cause
Just Cause follows Rico Rodriguez, an agency operative who topples island dictators with a grapple hook and wingsuit. The first game hit San Esperito in 2006. Just Cause 2 moved to Panau in 2010 and made the series famous for open chaos. Just Cause 3 hit Medici in 2015 with full destruction.
Just Cause 4 landed in Solis in December 2018 with extreme weather. A fifth game was never announced and a leaked listing was cancelled, with Avalanche moving to other projects. The mobile spinoff was cancelled in 2023. Play 1 through 4 in order. Each story ends clean.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order. Each game follows the last with Rico older and on a new mission, so release order is the only list. You can start at 2 or 3 and miss little, since every plot resets with a new island. The series is dormant as of September 2026, with no Just Cause 5 in production and the film still unmade.
