About American Ninja
American Ninja (1985) made Michael Dudikoff's Joe Armstrong Cannon's ninja star across two films of army-base martial arts. American Ninja 3 (1989) passes the headband to David Bradley's Sean Davidson, who carries parts 3 and 4, with the fifth (1993) closing the line.
Release order tracks the handoff: Dudikoff's duology first, then Bradley's trilogy. The plots recycle diligently (stolen weapons, ninja armies, kidnapped scientists), which is the formula's comfort. The fight choreography outshines every budget around it. The series ends at five with no revival filmed.
Good to know
The Dudikoff-to-Bradley switch confuses newcomers: they play different characters, so treat it as an anthology with a shared universe. Part 5's new direction makes it the odd one out. The Cannon house style (fast, cheap, sincere) defines all five. A reboot has been rumored for years without filming, so the 1993 end stands.
