About Lone Wolf and Cub
Lone Wolf and Cub follows disgraced executioner Ogami Itto pushing his son Daigoro in a cart while hunted by the Yagyu. Sword of Vengeance from 1972 sets the betrayal, Baby Cart at the River Styx from 1972 follows with the tattooed assassins, and Baby Cart to Hades from 1972 keeps the road duel format.
Baby Cart in Peril from 1972, Baby Cart in the Land of Demons from 1973 and White Heaven in Hell from 1974 close the run with the Yagyu showdown. Shogun Assassin from 1980 recuts the first two for the US and can be skipped. The TV series from 1973 is an optional extra after the films.

Watch the six in release order with no skipping. The Yagyu grudge only lands if you carry each duel forward, and White Heaven in Hell answers the 1972 setup directly. Shogun Assassin fits nowhere on a first run since it repeats footage. Treat the six as a closed set, since later TV takes retell rather than continue.
