About Larian Studios
Larian Studios is Swen Vincke's Belgian RPG house, built on reactive systems and co-op. Divine Divinity from 2002 opened the Rivellon universe, followed by Beyond Divinity in 2004 and the Divinity 2 dragon saga in 2009 with its 2010 expansion. Dragon Commander from 2013 mixed strategy with shooter runs.
Original Sin from 2014 rebooted the series as turn based co-op, and its 2017 sequel is the genre high point. Baldur's Gate 3 from August 2023 brought the formula to Faerun and won every major award. A new Divinity set in Rivellon was revealed December 2025 with no date. Play in release order.
Good to know
Release order is the play order. The Divinity games share Rivellon but each stands alone, and Baldur's Gate 3 needs no series knowledge at all. Original Sin 2 is the recommended first taste for systems fans, while Baldur's Gate 3 suits story first players. The new Divinity has only a cinematic reveal from December 2025, so it sits last with a null year.
