About Mafia
Mafia’s releases trace organized crime from 1930s Lost Heaven through 1940s Empire Bay to 1968 New Bordeaux, while The Old Country from 2025 rewinds to 1900s Sicily as a prequel. Gameplay modernizes sharply with each entry, so release order shows the series at its best.
The 2020 Definitive Edition remakes the 2002 original with new driving and shooting, and is now the way to play Tommy Angelo’s story. Chronological order starts in Sicily and runs forward, which suits returning players. New players should use release order and treat the prequel as a reward at the end.

Release order is recommended for first-timers because controls and mission design improve so much between 2002 and 2025. Chronological order runs Old Country, then the Definitive remake, then Mafia 2 and Mafia 3.
