About Minecraft
Minecraft began as Mojang's 2011 sandbox and grew into the best selling game ever, then spun off into full side games. Telltale's Story Mode ran two episodic seasons in 2015 and 2017, the AR game Earth ran from 2019 to 2021, the dungeon crawler Dungeons arrived in 2020 with 25 million players, and the strategy game Legends followed in 2023.
Minecraft Dungeons II was announced at Minecraft Live in March 2026 and released September 29, 2026. The spinoffs are standalone stories in the same blocky universe, so release order works and the main game can be played at any point. Story Mode was delisted after Telltale closed, and Earth is shut down, so both are history lessons now.
Good to know
Play the main game first or alongside everything else, since nothing spoils it. Story Mode's two seasons tell one Jesse saga, Dungeons and its sequel form their own Arch-Illager arc, and Legends and Earth stand alone. The 2025 Minecraft Movie is a separate Hollywood story outside this order. Multiplayer fans should note Dungeons supports four-player co-op throughout.
