About Outer Wilds

Outer Wilds launched in May 2019 on PC and Xbox with PS4 that fall, plus current consoles in 2022 and Switch in 2023. The run is a knowledge based 22 minute time loop with a ship log that carries across loops. Echoes of the Eye arrived in September 2021 as a large expansion with the Stranger ship, slide reels and the Prisoner run.

The DLC story predates the Nomai yet plays best during or after base, since it assumes loop fluency. It adds horror and stealth tones the base lacks. The Archaeologist Edition bundles both. No new Outer Wilds had an announcement as of September 2026, with Mobius on other projects. The run won Best Game at BAFTA 2020.

Good to know

Play base blind first, then Echoes, since knowledge progression is the real leveling. The ship log bridges loops, so do not restart to fix mistakes. Expect DLC scares if base felt cozy, with lantern and stealth sections dividing players. Buy bundled edition rather than base alone. Original PC run was Epic timed exclusive, so check store if saves do not transfer.
