About PaRappa the Rapper
PaRappa the Rapper from 1996 follows a paper thin dog learning to rap through stages like Chop Chop Master Onion. Um Jammer Lammy from 1999 shifts to guitarist Lammy in the same MilkCan world with a harder note chart. PaRappa the Rapper 2 from 2001 returns to PaRappa with noodle threats and smoother timing.
Play in release order. Lammy assumes you know the call and response style from PaRappa, and PaRappa 2 riffs on both. The PSP port from 2006 and the PS4 remaster from 2017 are the same first game, so pick one version and move on.
Good to know
Each game runs a few hours, so the trilogy fits in a single weekend without rushing stages. Lammy is the difficulty spike of the three and the one most players replay for rank. The series has been dormant since 2001 outside ports, with no new rhythm entry announced, so the three discs close the story.
