About Path of Exile
Path of Exile launched October 23, 2013 from Grinding Gear Games as a free action RPG in Wraeclast with six acts that later grew to ten through expansions. It runs seasons called leagues with fresh mechanics every few months, and the story follows exiles facing gods and corruption across Oriath and the Atlas.
Path of Exile 2 entered paid early access December 6, 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series with a new campaign and weapon skills, and Grinding Gear set full free to play 1.0 for December 11, 2026 with the Duelist class. The sequel runs alongside the original with separate campaigns, so new players start with the first game to learn flasks, gems and trading before trying the second.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing since Path of Exile 2 is a direct follow up set years later with its own campaign, so release order is story order. Play the original campaign to maps before touching early access, since balance patches change the sequel often. Treat December 11, 2026 as the point when the sequel becomes the standard entry for newcomers.
