About Portal

Portal starts with Chell waking in Aperture Science and solving test chambers with a portal gun while GLaDOS watches. Portal 2 expands the facility into its history with Wheatley and Cave Johnson, closing Chell's story. Spin-offs like Bridge Constructor Portal and Aperture Desk Job play in the same universe without touching that arc.

Play Portal, then Portal 2. The two form one story and release order matches story order, with the co-op campaign of Portal 2 slotting after its single player. Everything else is optional flavor: fun, but skippable for anyone here for the main plot.

Good to know

Portal: Still Alive is the Xbox extended edition of the first game, not a sequel, so owners of one version need not play both. The Companion Collection simply bundles both main games for Switch. No Portal 3 has been announced, and Valve has left the series dormant since Desk Job in 2022, so the two main games stand complete.
