About Professor Layton
Layton splits into two trilogies plus extras. The original run starts with Curious Village in 2007, then Diabolical Box and Unwound Future through 2008 as Luke's mentorship closes. The prequel trilogy rewinds to how they met: Last Specter in 2009, Miracle Mask in 2011 and Azran Legacy in 2013. Eternal Diva film slots between Specter and Mask, and the Wright crossover stands apart.
Release order is recommended first since the prequels assume the original's reveals. Chronological order runs Specter, Diva, Mask, Azran, then the original three. Katrielle's 2017 journey follows her father’s line later, and New World of Steam is dated 2026 as the next main entry.
Good to know
Play the original trilogy first, then the prequel trilogy. Azran Legacy lands hardest knowing where Layton and Luke end up, which chronological order would spoil upfront. Eternal Diva fits between Specter and Mask in story but plays fine after the originals too. The Wright crossover is non-canon fun for after both series. Steam waits outside the list until its 2026 release.
