About Quake

Quake began with id Software's 1996 original about Ranger crossing slipgates against Shub-Niggurath. Quake II (1997) rebooted around the Strogg invasion of Stroggos, Quake 4 (2005) continued that war with Matthew Kane, and Enemy Territory: Quak Wars (2007) told the prequel online. Quake III Arena (1999) and Champions (2017) run as pure multiplayer with lore-light rosters.

Nightdive's remasters of Quake (2021) and Quake II (2023) added new episodes and cross-play, becoming the versions to play. id keeps the series alive through QuakeCon and Game Pass, with no single-player sequel dated as of 2026.

Good to know

Play the remasters of 1 and 2 first, then 4, since the Strogg story assumes the invasion setup. Quake III and Champions fit anywhere as arena extras with no campaign to follow. The expansions like Scourge of Armagon and The Reckoning slot after their base games as bonus episodes rather than required chapters.
