About Rollcage
Rollcage launched in 1999 on PlayStation and Windows from Attention to Detail and Psygnosis. Its cars run wheels larger than the body, so they flip and keep driving, even up walls and tunnels, while tracks cross ceilings. Weapons picked up on track add combat to arcade laps.
Rollcage Stage II followed in 2000 on PlayStation and Windows with more tracks, cars, weapons and modes like Pursuit, Survivor and Demolition, plus rubble soccer arenas. It arrived in the UK in March and North America that October, with the PC version rebranded Death Track Racing in the US. Play the original first, then Stage II, since the sequel expands every system.
Good to know
Play the two games in release order, since Stage II assumes comfort with flip driving and weapon timing. The original sets the no-right-way-up idea on PS and PC, and Stage II pays it off with 65 circuits and 20 cars. No official sequel followed, with Attention to Detail moving to Firebugs and fans keeping the games alive through Redux and Extreme patches. The run is complete at two, with Grip as a separate spiritual successor.
