SaGa runs from the Game Boy Final Fantasy Legend trilogy through Romancing SaGa, SaGa Frontier, Unlimited Saga and Scarlet Grace to Emerald Beyond in 2024. Kawazu's free scenario design and sparking systems make every entry an experiment in open progression.
Play in release order. The games share systems rather than a world, so the order tracks the experiment from 8-bit to Emerald Beyond's branching multiverse, with Minstrel Song's remake the easiest door into Romancing SaGa. Frontier 2's dual generational tales reward series literacy most.
Good to know
Emerald Beyond from 2024 keeps the series active, so the status stays open past three decades of bold experiments for fans. The Game Boy originals survive through the Collection port for modern players. Unlimited Saga divides fans sharply and can wait until the curiosity bites; nothing in it gates the rest.
