About Sam and Max
Sam and Max began with Hit the Road in 1993 as a LucasArts road trip for the dog and rabbity duo. Telltale revived them with Save the World across 2006 and 2007, Beyond Time and Space across 2007 and 2008, and Devil Playhouse in 2010, each as episodic months. This Time It Virtual from 2021 rebuilt them for VR headsets.
Play in release order. Jokes call back across seasons, and Max lore only lands if you go straight through. Skunkape remasters from 2020, 2021 and 2024 replace the original Telltale builds, so buy those versions now over old downloads.
Good to know
Skip the cancelled 2004 Freelance Police build as a lost step outside canon for collectors only to ignore. Poker Night crossovers are optional bar talk with no plot weight on the seasons. No new season has been announced, so the road game plus three seasons and VR form the complete playable set to date.
