About Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight (2014) launched as Shovel of Hope and grew into a saga: Plague of Shadows (2015) retells it as the villain, Specter of Torment (2017) prequels it, King of Cards (2019) expands it, and Showdown (2019) turns it into a fighter. Shovel Knight Dig (2021) and Pocket Dungeon (2021) spin the brand into roguelike digging and puzzle combat.

Release order is the guide; the campaigns assume the base game's moves while each stands alone. The Treasure Trove bundle collects the saga campaigns and is the version to buy. Dig and Pocket Dungeon are side stories for after the main line. The 8-bit craft never wavers across seven years.

Good to know

The campaigns total hundreds of stages, so the saga is far bigger than its 2014 base: budget accordingly. King of Cards' card game Joustus is a full game inside the game. Dig's roguelike structure differs sharply from the saga's precision platforming. Yacht Club's Mina the Hollower is their next project, separate from Shovel Knight. No new Shovel campaign has been announced.
