About Splatoon
Splatoon pits Inkling squads in turf wars where ink coverage beats splats, starting with the 2015 Wii U original's single-player Octarian arc. Splatoon 2 from 2017 moves to Inkopolis Square with the Octo Expansion from 2018 adding an underground Octoling campaign.
Splatoon 3 from 2022 jumps to the Splatlands with the Side Order roguelike DLC from 2024. Splatoon Raiders from July 2026 is a Switch 2 single-player spinoff with Deep Cut on the Spirhalite Islands. Final-fest results carry settings forward, so play in release order throughout.
Good to know
Release order is story order, since each game's setting follows the previous final Splatfest: Marie's win leads into 2, Chaos leads into 3's apocalypse. Play Octo Expansion after the Splatoon 2 campaign and Side Order after the Splatoon 3 campaign. Raiders is a standalone spinoff that works after the trilogy. No new mainline is dated after Raiders.
