About StarCraft
StarCraft follows Terran, Zerg and Protoss wars from Mar Sara to Aiur. The 1998 original plus Brood War set Kerrigan turn across six campaigns, while StarCraft II splits into Wings of Liberty in 2010, Heart of the Swarm in 2013 and Legacy of the Void in 2015 with Raynor, Kerrigan and Artanis views. Nova Covert Ops from 2016 adds nine Terran missions after the trilogy.
Watch for story in release order since Brood War assumes the original and Legacy assumes both prior II parts. The Remastered version from 2017 replays the 1998 campaigns with modern art, so pick it over the original for a first run. No StarCraft III has been dated, which leaves 2016 as the endpoint.
Good to know
Release order is story order with no branches to reorder. Play the original or Remastered, then Brood War, then the three II campaigns in turn. Nova Covert Ops works last as a Terran epilogue rather than a start. New RTS players can start with Wings of Liberty for modern controls, but the Kerrigan arc lands harder with the 1998 games first. Treat the run as complete until Blizzard dates more.
