About State of Decay
State of Decay drops survivors into Trumbull Valley base-building in 2013, with Breakdown adding endless difficulty and Lifeline a military side campaign. The Year-One Survival Edition from 2015 bundles everything as the version to buy.
State of Decay 2 from 2018 expands to open-zone communities with the Daybreak horde mode and the Heartland story return to Trumbull Valley. The Juggernaut Edition from 2020 overhauls it as the definitive version. State of Decay 3 is dated 2027 after a 2026 gameplay reveal. Play 1, then 2 with Heartland.
Good to know
Release order is story order from the first valley communities into the sequel's plague-wall endgame. Play Breakdown and Lifeline inside the first game, and Heartland after the sequel's main communities. Juggernaut Edition replaces the 2018 original. State of Decay 3 is dated 2027 with beta playtests running. Start with the first game for the base-loop fundamentals.
