About Street Fighter
Street Fighter runs on loose continuity where release order is the practical path. The 1987 original plus the Alpha prequels set the Ansatsuken feud, Street Fighter II and IV carry the World Warrior tournaments, and III plus V move to the Illuminati and Shadaloo fall.
Street Fighter 6 from 2023 resets the timeline after Third Strike with a World Tour story plus four years of DLC through Year 4's Yasmine, Arjun, Tifa and Bosch. Competitive canon stays light by design, so the games play as eras rather than chapters with 6 as the modern hub.
Good to know
Play in release order from II onward, since the timeline loops back on itself and strict story order confuses more than it helps. Newcomers can start with 6 directly as the live hub with World Tour teaching the lore. Story order runs Alpha, II, IV, V, III, then 6, but that path spoils nothing and gains little, so keep it as a curiosity.
