About Tekken
Tekken follows the Mishima feud in release order across eight main games. The 1994 original through Tag Tournament build Heihachi's tournaments, 4 through 6 deepen Jin and Kazuya, and 7 from 2015 closes the Heihachi saga with its Fated Retribution expansion.
Tekken 8 from January 2024 continues with Jin versus Kazuya plus live-service seasons of DLC fighters. Story modes only became substantial from 7 onward, so earlier entries play as arcade ladders with endings, and 8 works as the modern hub.
Good to know
Play in release order from 1 through 8, since the Mishima bloodline only tracks that way. Newcomers can start with 7's story mode plus 8 directly, as the recap films cover the rest. Tag games and spin-offs stay optional side brackets, and 8's DLC seasons keep the roster growing past launch with no sequel dated.
