About Super Smash Bros

Super Smash Bros stacks Nintendo history into arena fighters, starting with 64's twelve-character brawl in 1999. Melee from 2001 sped everything up for GameCube competition, and Brawl from 2008 added the Subspace Emissary story with Snake and Sonic.

The paired 3DS and Wii U versions from 2014 dropped cutscenes after Brawl's leaks but added DLC fighters through Bayonetta. Ultimate from 2018 revives everyone with World of Light and two Fighter Passes ending on Sora in 2021. No sequel is announced. Play in release order for the roster ramp.

Good to know

No continuity runs between games, so release order is simply the roster and mechanics ramp from twelve fighters to nearly ninety. Brawl's Subspace and Ultimate's World of Light are standalone story modes. The 3DS and Wii U versions pair as one generation. Balance support ended years ago with no sequel announced, so this five-entry list is complete.
