About The Forest
The Forest (2018) drops Eric Leblanc on a cannibal peninsula after a crash, with 1.0 on April 30, 2018 for PC after 2014 early access. Sons of the Forest (2024) sends a recovery team for a missing billionaire family, with early access February 23, 2023 and 1.0 February 22, 2024. Both were built by Endnight Games with cave dives, base builds and a hidden lab ending.
The second reuses the artifact, the island chain and the cannibal tribes without long recaps. Endnight announced Forest 3 on December 11, 2025 at The Game Awards with no date or platforms. Play the first, then Sons, then wait on the third once it has shape.
Good to know
Release order matches story order, with Sons set after the first lab choice. Do not start with Sons, since the wife photo, the cross and the cube only land if you saw the crash. Sons runs longer and harder on thirst and winter, so expect a slower open. Treat Forest 3 as announced but undated, with no gameplay shown yet.
