About The Surge
The Surge from Deck13 launched May 16, 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC about Warren in CREO facility with exo rig after disaster. It uses limb targeting to loot gear and souls style checkpoints. The Surge 2 arrived September 24, 2019 in Jericho City with new lead and expanded parry drone.
Stories share world with new cast, so either works first, but release order shows combat polish. Both run about 25 hours with tech scrap systems. No third game has been announced after Focus moved on, so these two are complete with DLC bosses as extras.

There is no branching timeline, so release order is the recommended path. The first game teaches slicing with slower halls. The sequel adds directional blocking and city verticality.
