About Borderlands
Borderlands follows vault hunters across Pandora and beyond in release order with spin-offs between the numbers. The original from 2009 sets the loot formula, Borderlands 2 from 2012 expands it with Handsome Jack, and the Pre-Sequel from 2014 bridges the two from the moon.
Tales from the Borderlands tells a Telltale side story, Borderlands 3 arrived in 2019, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands spun off in 2022, and Borderlands 4 launched September 12, 2025 on Kairos with Story Packs rolling out after. The 2024 film is a separate continuity and works as an optional extra.
Good to know
Play the numbered games in release order with the Pre-Sequel between 1 and 2 for the cleanest Jack arc. Tales fits after Borderlands 2 as character backfill, and Wonderlands any time after 3 as a fantasy detour. Story order roughly matches release order apart from the Pre-Sequel, so one list covers it, and the DLC packs keep Borderlands 4 growing past launch.
