About Crytek
Crytek is the Frankfurt engine house that made foliage a selling point. Far Cry from 2004 opened with tropical mercenary sandbox, Crysis from 2007 turned the nanosuit into PC benchmark legend, and Warhead from 2008 retold it from Psycho's side. Crysis 2 from 2011 moved to New York with the Nanosuit 2, and Crysis 3 from 2013 closed the trilogy in the Liberty Dome.
Ryse from 2013 launched the Xbox One with Roman spectacle. Hunt Showdown from 2019 rebuilt the studio around bayou extraction shooter, relaunched as Hunt 1896 in August 2024. Crysis 4 was announced in 2022 but sits on hold since 2024 while Hunt carries the studio. Play in release order.
Good to know
Release order is the play order. The Crysis trilogy shares the Ceph war but each entry recaps enough to stand alone, while Far Cry, Ryse and Hunt share nothing at all. Hunt 1896 is the same game relaunched, not a sequel, so it folds into the Hunt entry. Crysis 4 is announced but on hold with no date and sits last until Crytek restarts it.
