About Bungie
Bungie began with Marathon, a 1994 Mac first-person shooter about a colony ship AI, followed by the Myth tactics series and the anime-inspired action of Oni. Microsoft acquired the studio during Halo's development, turning Halo: Combat Evolved into the Xbox launch title that defined console shooters.
After splitting from Microsoft, Bungie launched Destiny in 2014 as a shared-world shooter blending raids with persistent loot. Destiny 2 followed in 2017 and continues to receive expansions. Playing in release order shows how Bungie's gun feel, skyboxes and puzzle-like encounters carry across otherwise unrelated universes. Newcomers short on time can start with Halo or Destiny 2 directly.
Good to know
Play in release order. Bungie's universes do not share continuity, so there is no story chronology to untangle beyond seeing design ideas evolve. Marathon and Myth feel dated but explain references reused in Halo terminals and Destiny grimoires. Oni remains playable through ports and mods. A Marathon reboot has been announced but has no firm date, so this list covers released games that shape Bungie's reputation.
